outh Korean coronavirus super spreader religious group members from Shincheonji Daegu Church have decided to donate plasma to help the serious Covid-19 patients.

A press statement issued by the group has said that at least 500 members from the community are going to donate blood plasma this week. The group was seen as a super spreader in South Korea when the outbreak started in the country earlier this year.

The statement mentions, “Among the members of the Shincheonji Daegu Church, 500 people who have been cured from Covid-19 are donating blood plasma this week. The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said it will install three blood donation cars in front of Kyungpook National University Hospital for five days from today (13th) in cooperation with the Red Cross to extract blood plasma from 500 congregation members of Shincheonji who have been completely cured from the coronavirus.”

In June, Shincheonji expressed its intention to donate blood plasma of 4,000 members, but only 55 members were able to donate blood plasma as of the 10th, as there were only three hospitals in Daegu that could receive the plasma.

Shincheonji said that 500 members’ blood plasma will be procured within this week by using the blood donation cars that can extract in large quantities. So far, there are about 170 people’s blood plasma collected nationwide, and clinical trials will begin this week.

The plasma of 500 people donated by Shincheonji will then be used to make blood treatment medicine after the clinical trials.

Meanwhile, Shincheonji has been sued by the small business owners of the city of Daegu for providing the cause of the spread of Covid-19 in Daegu. As a result, some analysts say the blood plasma donation is an attempt to ease the worsening public opinion on Shincheonji and restore the least of its honor.
